In the culture I grew up in, the little spots of light that dance on the wall when the sun hits a cup of tea have a name: “sun bunnies.” Every kid knew them. You would try to catch them with your hands, and they always slipped away.
This painting is my attempt to turn that memory into a picture: a tea party where the sun bunnies have become real bunnies, gathering around a striped teapot and a spotted teacup in soft, glowing pastels. It is about childhood, and about the warmth of home.
Living in the U.S. as an immigrant is not always easy, and the culture you carry from home is not always understood or welcomed. This piece is a reminder of strength for everyone who left home and started over. For those who’ve been overlooked or made to feel like outsiders, and still chose to stay soft. Still chose to create. Still chose love over fear.
Art has always been my way home, and I offer this piece to help others find theirs.
